Technip Energies acquires bio-based succinic acid production technology from DSM
Latest: Technip Energies, a French engineering and technology company, recently purchased Biosuccinium® from the Dutch company DSM
technology that significantly complements its growing portfolio of sustainable chemicals.
This technology is synergistic with the recently developed proprietary biopolymer technology to provide a commercial reference for the production of bio-based succinic acid (bio-SAc), which is used to produce polybutylene succinate (PBS)
raw materials. PBS itself is fully biodegradable, and if based on bio-SAc, it is an ideal bio-based sustainable packaging material for food contact applications, which complies with consumer and government demands for materials with a lower carbon footprint and reduced environmental pollution choose.
The purchase includes patented and proprietary yeast strains that have been demonstrated at scale in the licensee’s production facility. Biosuccinium® technology will be the only bio-based succinic acid production technology licensed to the market.
Bhaskar Patel, Senior Vice President, Sustainable Fuels, Chemicals and Circular at Technip Energies, commented: “We are delighted to have acquired this proven technology from DSM, which complements our growing portfolio of sustainable chemicals will enable Technip Energies
Licensing a solution to produce biosourced and biodegradable polymers with a 50% lower carbon footprint compared to fossil-based routes. ”
“Superior product performance combined with best-in-class sustainability performance are key attributes in today’s consumer market. We will leverage the entire PBS value chain, and we have licensed the technology to polymerize bio-based monomers into PBS.”
